The catchphrase “the science of reading” is often narrowly understood as “phonics” (an instructional approach to teaching beginning readers that emphasizes the correspondence between written letters and spoken sounds).
While phonics instruction is supported by the research and is relevant for beginning readers learning how to sound out words, it is only one of many components of the science of reading.

Participants complete six hours of live, interactive professional learning delivered through different scheduling options, including:
Short, focused sessions: 60-minute sessions held twice per week
Extended sessions: 2-hour sessions held once per week
